Finance is the study of the acquisition and utilization of capital while creating value for stakeholders. Students majoring in finance learn about business finance, investments, and macroeconomics. Topics include investment analysis, corporate finance, business ethics, real estate investment and portfolio management, insurance, and risk management.
The bachelor鈥檚 degree in finance requires 66 credit hours, including 21 hours of economics and finance courses plus core requirements (45 hours), including courses in economics and finance, and 9 hours of finance, management, or accounting electives.
The requirements for a minor consist of 24 semester hours, including specific courses in accounting, economics, and finance.

Finance majors can expect that services provided by financial managers, such as planning, directing, and coordinating investments, will be in demand as the economy grows. For example, employment of self-employed financial managers is expected to grow 15-17% by 2034鈥攆aster than the average for all occupations.
Internships provide opportunities for students to apply knowledge gained in the classroom while making meaningful contributions to the organization for which they work. Students can complete internships during any semester, though most take place over the summer and last about 10 weeks. With guidance from the Director of Career Services & Student Employment, students develop an internship proposal and gain hands-on experience in their field. Internships also include a reflective journal, a final paper, and relevant research.

Independent studies allow students to study topics that are not part of the regular curriculum. Independent studies require students to work closely with a faculty member in the area in which the independent study is to be done.
Small class sizes enable engaging faculty members to enhance your learning experience by challenging and inspiring you and providing individualized attention. Coursework, including computerized applications, is designed to promote your understanding of financial theory and the ability to apply finance-related principles in the business environment. Each course allows you to take away valuable lessons in the financial field and provides a full understanding of the material on a personal and textbook level.
